Musing…
Google turns down Olive - It shouldn’t come as any suprise that Google may have taken a page from Microsoft’s book on this rejected purchase. I first read about the deal on SiliconBeatÂ? and chose to wait and see what happened with the deal. I read today that not only has the deal been rejected (after very in-depth analysis of the company and their product), but Google will soon be looking to open up shop in Israel themselves. It will be interesting to see if any Olive employees look to jump ship and join the dark side - which now seems toÂ? consistÂ? of two companies. (And siteadvisor thought that Google isn’t evil?).
Speaking of siteadvisor - The site acquired by Mcafee in December is providing a fairly interesting service - rating the reputation of websites. It has been described as “Rapleaf for websites,” which is probably a fair comparison, and although we haven’t checked out the site (or our rating) yet, we will soon be logging in to give the site and their service a review.
AIMSpaceÂ? update -Â? Â? AIMSpace, or Aim Pages as it seems to be called,Â? seems to be getting closer to officially launching their “MySpace Killer” and the first screenshots that I’ve seen are available at Techcrunch. It seems the service will be similar to a mashup, trying to focus the users on mashing up AOL content first and foremost, but it seems they will allow a variety of external modules as well. Although there is a question of making money with the site, I think I have a potential idea for AOL to make money of this one.
More from MSN - I recently broke down and will be checking out Live.com and their available email service. It seems like it will be a virtual carbon copy of the Outlook Express experience, only online, and that would seem to make a lot of sense. The transition will be seemless for those accustomed to the program.Â? Windows LiveÂ? Messenger will be going public soon as well. I avoided the invitations I got for the service, but again, I will have to break down and look at it more closely. C’est la vie. For more information, check out this post on Techcrunch.
