Electronic Voting

In the land of the free, a country that boasts (and reaps) the rewards of democracy and capitalism, one would think that voting would be something that had been mastered. However, the United States has been the host to some of the most controversial events in elections recently. Ignore the last two presidential elections and the much-talked about results and voting controversies that came from them, this election and the release of an HBO documentary has produced an amazing amount of ado.

The HBO documentary was titled “Hacking Democracy” (several clips on YouTube.com) was released on November 2nd, 2006, almost a week before the election. From the HBO website:

This cautionary documentary exposes the vulnerability of computers - which count approximately 80% of America’s votes in county, state and federal elections - suggesting that if our votes aren’t safe, then our democracy isn’t safe either.
