A little late due to the server swap, but here is the press release from the official launch of Sxipper!

Sxipper Enables You to Forget Your Passwords On the Web

Forgot your passwords?  Good!  Sxipper, new beta software from Sxip
Identity released at the Internet Identity Workshop today, lets you
log into any website with a single click. A free plug-in to the
popular web browser Firefox, Sxipper saves you time and brainpower by
keeping track of all of your user IDs, passwords, and the personal
data you share every day online. Sxipper logs you in securely and
helps to prevent you from being victimized by phishing sites and
phony logins.

Sxipper also does much more:

     * Always available - appears when needed, so you can login or
fill in forms with a single click
     * Trustworthy - encrypts your personal data and stores it on
your computer
     * Accurate formfill - learns from its own users how to complete
forms with 100% accuracy
     * OpenID ready - native support for this emerging Identity 2.0
protocol
     * Easy to install - mines data from your address book and
browser to give you a head start

Unique to Sxipper, the community-driven semantic mapping tool ensures
that Sxipper knows exactly how to fill in forms that it encounters
because you, and the rest of the Sxipper user community, show it how.
The more forms you teach Sxipper how to use, the richer your karma.

Sxipper is young and is still being trained. Thus as with all beta
software, there are a few things that still need to be polished!

Musings - techFourAndAHalf

We just finished moving over to a new server. We should have done this awhile back, and hopefully there are only minor problems that we face because of our procrastination, however, while the move was taking place, I have been unable to post. There are so many different things I would have gone over, from Yahoo! reworking their Executive to some of the events in the world of security, so I will just provide a bunch of links to people that were probably more qualified to talk about the subjects anyways (but fail to have the interesting perspective or the scope that of course all my posts would have had). :)

IBM Buys Into Security Compliance - I posted a few weeks back in the techFive about HP surpassing IBM as the largest IT company in the world. Several of my posts have started to look more at security, a reflection of my new position with Dyrand Systems (shameless plug inserted), but also because it will become an increasingly important topic as more and more businesses and consumers start to rely on the Internet. This area should provide more growth than IBM’s traditional lines, and as stated by Steven Adler (IBM’s program director for its Data Governance Solutions group), it adds a missing element to [IBM’s] portfolio. It’s important to note that this is IBM’s eleventh acquisition this year.

CyberGangs and Thieves - Keeping with security, isn’t it interesting that the people who spent time picking on and beating up the geeks in high school are now teaming up with them to rip the rest of us off?

Yahoo! Restructures - Paul Kedrosky is one of my favourite bloggers, and he makes a few good points in the article. From pointing out the 1,540 words used (was that too long or too short?) to noting the insignificance of the significant promotion of Sue Decker to his final point, the absense of Mr. Filo (Rob had a beer with him!), Paul seems bang on with this one again. Here is the original press release.

D7TV May Be the MTV for Mobile Content - Digital media provided mobilely (is that even a word?). I think we’ve touched on this, but the site has a neat spin on the idea. Establish the userbase now, before the wave, and hopefully become the brand in demand.

Probably enough to at least get you started. There’s all sorts of other stuff to comment on - Piczo’s growth proving social networking will never rest with any one site and Oz mashing up major social network sites for mobile devices - but I just can’t cover it all. … 4 1/2, but not quite a techFive.

techFive - 12.01.06

techFive LogoWell, it’s late on Friday, which is a horrible time to make this release, especially when I’ve been at work almost an hour extra for the second day in a row. However, I do like my job - the one thatÂ? pays me and this one -Â? and I’m a trooper, so here it is.

1. MySpace (officially)Â? debuts Google Search - As mentioned in the article, the Google logo has been appearing at times on the website, but it seems this has finally been made official. $900 million Google-bucks will soon tell us that MySpace is nowhere near as big as everyone thinks.

2. Yahoo to Launch Brand Sites - I’ll let the article do the talking (2 for Pete this week, nice!). Basically, Yahoo! is leveraging its userbase and providing a reason to spend your entire online life on their properties. Why bother with MySpace fan pages, News groups, or any other third party service when Yahoo! has one of the best, if not the best, network of third party services that is integrated not only with their own kick-ass properties, but also with your account? Check out the Wii portal.

3. Wal-mazon - Throw in the acquisition of Fedex and Verizon, and suddenly we have everything we’ve ever wanted from Big Box Mart! Check out this post about Amazon’s new service, too.

4. Zoho Launches MS Office Plug-inÂ? - Google is already pretty far into their online office apps to grab Zoho, and I’m not sure if it makes sense, but maybe Microsoft should consider it, but again, I always have to mention Yahoo!

5. Yahoo and Google - Two different posts about the companies: one about the closing of Google’s Answers while Yahoo! Answers thrives, and another about a lawsuit between the two companies over Google’s Book Search.

Honourable mention - never heard much about it, and really want to get home at this point, but this doesn’t seem like freedom of speech in the blogosphere.

Runner up mention - Multi-million dollar Homepage….

Note: Normally I’d try and find a wider range of sources for these 5 items, but it is definitely home time, so you’re stuck with a one-dimensional (or at least limited) review of the week’s events.
