Blog Update

Thursday, March 8th, 2007

We’ve been a bit absent the last couple of weeks, and I can’t help but appreciate the irony of the last post that has been sitting on the blog; staring at me every time I go to the site is my #5, a cheeky shot at Rob to get our server issues taken care of. Well, that weekend, he started looking at migrating everything over to a new server; we had to move to a temporary server in December, were offered what was supposed to be a better server which we moved to in early January, I believe, but that was still sluggish. We looked at a couple different options, and the one we were most interested in and attempted to go with let the team down. It was supposed to be ready for us for February 1st, and they contacted us last week. By that time everything was in place to move to this server, which is pretty darn good!

What we didn’t realize, and had chalked up as a problem relating to our migration, was that our OpenID plug-in was causing problems with our login page. Not only did we consider the migration as a potential problem to troubleshoot, but there was also a top-secret Nitobi plug-in that Rob was checking out (absolutely AMAZING, but I can say no more), and we thought that it might be causing us some problem. Well, in the end, Rob the Guru (that’s right, I said it) did figure it out and we’re now running on a wicked-fast setup.

As two reasonably tech savy individuals (I think I bring down the average here), I hope everyone can appreciate and maybe even giggle seeing us struggle with technology relating to our technology blog. :)
