Fad-book?
It’s interesting when you have a feedreader of sorts and get to see two articles that are almost contradicting each other; today on Mashable, Ballmer Comments on Facebook and Facebook boasts about International growth. While I can appreciate that Facebook is an almost unstoppable force (that allows them to boast about their International growth), I have to agree that the recent $10 billion rumoured valuations seem a bit high for the site (Skype, anyone?), as mentioned by Ballmer. However, comments made like Before Facebook there was MySpace, and before MySpace there was Friendster, need to be taken with a grain of salt; MySpace and Friendster are still doing quite well, and although both sites may have already peaked, both seem to have found a niche that will allow them to survive, unlike Geocities. Another interesting article to consider while looking at those two is a third that discusses the inability of Facebook to penetrate the French market - which includes not owning the Facebook.fr URL. While penetrating a majority of Europe is important, France is hardly a country to be ignored, is it?
Anyone who’s seen Talladega Nights recently will remember that France gave us three important things:
Ricky Bobby: Really, smarty-pants? What did French land give us?
Jean Girard: We invented democracy, existentialism, and the blowjob.
Cal Naughton, Jr.: Those are three pretty good things.
Ricky Bobby: Hey.
Cal Naughton, Jr.: Well that last one’s pretty cool.
