JavaScript Definitive Guide

JavaScript Definitive Guide

This is one of my favorite books, it is a complete guide and reference to all current topics, Ajax techniques and DOM Scripting as well as namespacing, developing Object Oriented code. This book is a must own, read it and you will be one with the JavaScript force.

Professional JavaScript for Web Developers

Professional JavaScript for Web Developers

I picked this book up over holidays last year and I couldn't put it down. Yes I spend my space time reading geeky books :). This book covers advance topics such as object-oriented programming, XML, Web services, and remote scripting (Ajax).

PHP Developers Guide - Application Development

PHP Developers Guide

I admit, this book is a little old and we are now onto PHP 5 but as far as Server Side Development is concerned, this book is one of my favorites. Maybe if the PHP Website wasn't so well documented there would more need for PHP books. This book covers Configuration, Shared Memory Support, XML, the Zend Engine and all the core language specs.

Media Resources

Douglas Crockford, discoverer of JSON and JavaScript evangelist/veteran has given a training on the theory of the DOM lately and the videos are available on the web.

Each video is about half an hour long, and - having met Douglas Crockford and taken in this presentation myself, I would watch it again, and recommend it to anyone learning DOM and JavaScript.

My Projects

JayandSilentRob.com - Hey, that's this site. Jay and SilentRob is a web log or blog focusing on internet trends new technology, startups and the big three, MSN, Yahoo and Google.

Thought JayandSilentRob.com, Jason Barnes and I have been invited to numerous events including Yahoo!'s first annual open Hackday and while we didn't win, we finished strong and brought back many new friends and memories.

Kazoom.ca - By far the biggest project I have taken on. Kazoom.ca is/was an online community much like myspace or friendster/hi5. This site was built between June 04 and Oct 05 it had every feature you would expect to see from any community; Upload Photos, and Videos, create online photo albums, build a custom profile, create friends lists, or import friends from outlook, hotmail, yahoo or gamil. Chat with people by sending messages, SMS text messages, or through the many forums. Collaborate and build relationships by creating or joining an interest group or visit one of the many supported venues.

FKMarry.com - While not the most challenging website, by far one of the most fun sites I have built. FKMarry is a web game entirely web 2.0 using Prototype and JSON. The purpose of the game is to make a choice between the three candidates, whom you would marry, kill or well... Check out stats of other peoples choices and even create your own custom game to email to your friends. FKMarry was featured on 99.3 CFOX Morning show.

SafehouseSam.com - The purpose of Safehouse Sam is to keep a online secure record of everything insurable safe. Add pictures, purchased date and price, make model and serial number and easily manage items in your house by room or item type.

Safehouse Sam was build on top of Prototype and Scriptaculo.us using JSON to transport only changes made by the client. This was a very fast Web 2.0 application.
